The Square & Compass is the proud host of the annual Ale House Rocks Music Festival. The first Festival took place in 2014 and came out of a conversation between local promoters and long-time members of the Derbyshire music scene, Mike McMaster and Paul Taylor. The area has constantly produced amazingly talented bands who simply didn’t have the exposure at ground level to have their songs heard. The idea that Mike and Paul had was to provide some of that exposure; to bring great bands together for a full day of diverse, original, local music and to celebrate talent.
The 2014 edition of the Festival was headlined by Facsimile and 2015 saw Ben Ottewell of Gomez take to the stage along with 11 other bands. In 2016, a success despite the rain, local nu-disco upstarts Patawawa were the Festival headliners.
